Honorary Research Fellow Queensland Museum Dr Vivian Sandoval Gomèz

Dr. Vivian Sandoval is a taxonomist who has been working with insects associated with fungi, such as leaf-cutter ants and mycetobiont beetles.

She studied the Neotropical and Afrotropical fauna of the minute tree-fungus beetles of the genus Xylographus (Coleoptera: Ciidae) for her PhD and worked as a Lecturer and Insect Curator for several years in Brazil.

In Australia, Vivian is working for the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries with postharvest disinfestation trials of fruit-flies, and also as an Honorary Research Fellow of the Queensland Museum.

Vivian is usually foraging for fungi in order to collect the tiny beetles that are living inside, and working on the description of new taxa and their life histories.
