Planned burn Alex Forest Conservation Area ALEXANDRA HEADLAND
A section of Alex Forest Conservation Area will undergo a planned burn on Thursday, September 7, 2023 weather permitting, between 9am to 4pm as part of Sunshine Coast Council’s Bushfire Management Program.
Burn location: Alex Forest Conservation Area, Mari St, Alexandra Headland, ALEXANDRA HEADLAND.

A section of Alex Forest Conservation Area will undergo a planned burn on Thursday, September 7, weather permitting, between 9am to 4pm as part of Sunshine Coast Council’s Bushfire Management Program.
A 1.5-hectare section will be burnt. Smoke impacts to surrounding residents and road users should be minimal.
To reduce the impact on animals, a corridor will be maintained for wildlife.
The aim of this burn is to reduce the volume of forest fuels and to maintain fire adapted ecosystems.
Park closure
The area will be closed during burn operations and for at least a day following the burn. Please follow signage for your safety.
Smoke
Smoke from the fire will be closely monitored and is not expected to significantly affect surrounding residents or roadways.
Smoke will be noticed in immediate areas surrounding Alex Forest Conservation Area, including the following roads around Mooloolaba, Alexandra Headland, Buderim & Maroochydore:

- Palm Drive
- Sugar Road
- Oloway Crescent
- Tranquil Place
- Okinja Road
- Yoomba Crescent
- Yakola Parade

- Admiralty Drive
- Kawana Street
- Mooloolaba Road
- Surf Road
- Wirraway Street
- Woonum Road
- Atlantis Parade
- Camfield Street
- Kawana Street.
Smoke plumes may be noticed from further afield.
Planned burns help to
- reduce the amount of fuel on the ground before bushfire season
- lessen the intensity of any subsequent wildfires
- maintain and support plant species to survive that rely on fire to regenerate.
Community safety

- Any residents affected by smoke are advised to close windows and doors, utilise air-conditioning and keep respiratory medication close at hand. Seek medical advice if you are susceptible to smoke impacts
- As a precaution, road users are advised to drive to suit conditions with the potential for smoke to reduce visibility.
Residual smoke may be experienced for up to one days.
The burn will be conducted under a permit to light fire issued to council from the Queensland Fire and Emergency Services.
