Stories from the Forest - see and do

Mary Cairncross Scenic Reserve holds a special place in the hearts of many. It is a place of many and varied stories. Tap into the stories from the forest.

New exhibition coming soon... open from Tuesday, 3 December 2024.

Mary Cairncross Scenic Reserve holds a special place in the hearts of many. This precious remnant of sub-tropical rainforest is not here by accident. It is the result of concerted effort by many people across generations starting with the Jinibara, the first custodians. Recognising and celebrating the crucial role of former and current custodians this exhibition showcases the human connections to Mary Cairncross Scenic Reserve.

Visit the Rainforest Discovery Centre, listen to the stories and share your connection to the reserve.

  • Write a letter to your favorite tree at the Giant Fig Tree display.
  • Discover the inspiring story of the formation of the reserve.
  • Listen to the Jinibara story of the carpet python and the storm.
  • Record your story of connection to Mary Cairncross Scenic Reserve in the audio recording nook upstairs.
  • Touch, smell and discover the story of the timber that drove early logging in the region.
  • Retell the story of your walk in the forest with the giant, interactive forest map.
