Found in the rainforest understorey, the Carronia Vine is one of few rainforest vines that prefer to ‘scramble’ across the forest floor rather than climbing to the top of the canopy.
When walking through Mary Cairncross you may overlook this vine but it is the only known food source for the larvae of the endangered Pink Underwing Moth (Phyllodes imperalis). Mary Cairncross is one of only a few confirmed breeding locations for this moth species.
Look closely, you may be lucky enough to witness the brilliant pink underwings of this well-camouflaged moth.
